A Business Plenary Session was held in the Anheuser-Busch
Briefing Center including approximately 90 business executives
from Pakistan and the United States. Attendees were welcomed
to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce by Dr. Herbert J. Davis,
Managing Director of South Asia Affairs and Executive Director
of the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council. Key speakers included:
William Lash, Assistant Secretary of Commerce; Waseem Haqqie
Chairman Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan; Tariq Ikram,
Minister of State and Chairman Export Promotion Bureau, Government
of Pakistan; Suhail Shahid, Managing Director, Pakistan Software
Export Board and Edward Jackson, President and CEO, Sweetwater
International.

The U. S.-Pakistan Business Council was officially inaugurated as
an integral unit of the United States Chamber of Commerce at a
formal luncheon held in the Hall of Flags at the U. S. Chamber of
Commerce. The luncheon was attended by some 165 business
representatives from Pakistan and the United States as well as key
officials from both the Government of Pakistan and the United States.
The luncheon was also attended by the President of the Federation
of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Mr. Iftikar Ali Malik.
Keynote speakers included the Honorable Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy
Secretary of Defense and the Honorable Shaukat Aziz, Minister of
Commerce, Government of Pakistan.

Inaugural Meeting of the U. S.-Pakistan Business
Council Board of Directors
The first meeting of the board of directors of the U. S.-Pakistan
Business Council was held in the Herman Lay Room of the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce following the inaugural luncheon. The
meeting was called to order by Mr. Ahmet C. Bozer, Chairman of
the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council and President, Coca-Cola etc.
Member companies in attendance included: Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola,
Boeing, Net Sol Technologies, Inc. Shalimar Investments, Inc.,
Asian American Trading Services, Inc., and Telnia, Inc.
